Based in the area of Thanet, Kent - www.kent-test.co.uk is owned and run by the Teacher herself. Initially each pupil is tested individually to ascertain the areas of strength, and where help is required. Frank and accurate advice on what is needed based upon the results of the tests, recent school reports and parental consultation is then given. Parents are then able to select whether or not to continue with lessons if required.
Lesons are conducted at the teacher's home for two main reasons;
1. If a lesson is being given and during the tutorial other aspects arise unexpectedly, the teacher may not have the necessary books to back up, answer and continue the question asked thoroughly, if she has travelled to the pupil's home with a prepared lesson. At her own home, the teacher has an extremely wide range of teaching resources that she can immediately access.
2. The pupil has a higher concentration span and will learn more and quicker out of the home environment as many distractions are automatically removed. (For example - what other family members may be doing or what is happening around them in their familiar home surroundings)

The Teacher
The teacher is Jan, who has been in education for 60 years. She trained in the late 1960's at Nonnington Teacher Training College, near Canterbury, Kent, where she gained the Teachers Certificate of Education (Cert.Ed).
She started her career teaching pupils aged 11-16, but in 1995 took a conversion course at Canterbury University, enabling her to teach Key Stage 2, (7-11 year olds). Jan has worked in both the State and Independent sectors and for the past 30 years has specialised in work leading to the Kent Test, although as can be seen, other requirements are also catered for.
Jan is regularly 'DBS checked' (enhanced), which gives parents additional piece of mind and is mandatory for one of her other teaching programmes.
